The Different Types of Mobility Scooters

If you are faced with restricted mobility, investing a mobility scooter can be a god-send as you endeavour to maintain as much of your independence as possible. Enabling you to make all of those essential journeys once more, here at Additional Aids Mobility we have a number of different mobility scooters in Kingston available to suit a wide variety of needs.

There are three different types of mobility scooters available for you to choose from in our selection;

Compact Mobility Scooter

This range of scooter is ideal to be used for short journeys to the local shopping centre on an everyday basis. They can be easily dismantled to be loaded into a car and are also ideal to be used within the home along with many other areas where space may be confined.

Mid Size Mobility Scooter

The mid size mobility scooter is designed to travel further distances than its compact counterpart and can also cope far better on rougher terrains. As a slighter larger model, the mid size scooter is more suited to everyday outdoor use, however in some cases can be used indoors too.

Heavy Duty Mobility Scooter

The third and final type of mobility scooter we have available to you is the heavy duty range. Our top of the range models are intended for pavement and road use as they can carry heavier weights over much longer distances. Only suitable for outdoor use, the heavy duty mobility scooters are fitted with a top quality suspension system to ensure your complete comfort at all times.

Alongside your mobility scooter, there are also companies available to install various adaptations to develop mobility cars in Hertfordshire, which can be used in conjunction with your mobility scooter to enhance your independence no matter what level of restricted mobility you are faced with.

With our collection of mobility scooters in Kingston, you have an extensive selection of different brands, models and designs to choose from. We are confident that with the assistance of the team here at Additional Aids Mobility, you can reinstate some of the independence you may previously have lost with a quality mobility scooter.

Community Equipment Prescriptions

Additional Aids Mobility are fully accredited to accept prescriptions for you to redeem against simple aids for daily living.  You might be able to receive a prescription from your local borough.

Here are some frequently asked questions you might have:

Customers Questions and Answers

 1. I am finding it hard to cope with tasks like getting dressed and showering.  What happens if I ask for help?

The first step will be an assessment.  The professional carrying out the assessment will talk through with you what you would like to achieve and what equipment can help you to achieve it.  If you agree that the equipment could help you out, a prescription is issued.  You can then take it to accredited retailers like us and exchange it for the prescribed item.

2. Who do I contact if I need equipment or advice?

You need to contact your GP, Community Nurse, other health care professional or someone in Social Services.  They can arrange for you to have an assessment to ascertain your individual needs.  Unfortunately, we cannot issue you with a prescription.

3. Where do I go to exchange my prescription?

When given your prescription, you will be given a list of accredited retailers in your area.  You take your prescription along to any of the retailers who will provide the equipment in exchange for the prescription.

4.  How do I redeem my prescription?

It is very simple to redeem your prescription.  Bring the ‘Yellow’ copy of your prescription to us and we can redeem the item for you.  A family member or friend can do this for you and they will have to sign a form to say that they have collected the item on your behalf.  We may have to order the item in for you but as soon as it arrives, we will contact you.

 5. I am housebound.  How can I get my equipment?

At the point of assessment, if it is clear that you are not able to go to accredited retailers to choose your equipment then the assessor will prescribe delivery of the item as well.  Call us on 020 8755 0022 to order you item and arrange for a convenient time for delivery.

 6. What if I find something else I prefer, at the accredited retailer?  Will I be able to use my prescription?

If you find something else i.e. a piece of equipment which has the same function as the prescribed item and differs only in look and feel, then you can exchange your prescription for it.  If the item is more expensive than the one that was originally prescribed, you will need to pay the difference between the prescription value and that of the item you have chosen.  You cannot exchange your prescription for equipment that is functionally different to the item prescribed or for medication or therapy.  Most of the items available through prescriptions can be found in our catalogue which you can download from here http://www.aamobility.co.uk/aamobility-2011.pdf

 7. When I have finished with the equipment, do I have to give it back?

No. If you are given a prescription for your equipment, then it belongs to you. When you have finished with it, you may choose to recycle it via your local recycling facilities.

If you need any further help, advice or if you need to redeem your prescription, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Spring has sprung!

With the advent of spring and hopefully the warmer weather, now is the perfect time to have your mobility scooter serviced.  You may not think that your scooter should be serviced as it seems to be running correctly but a yearly service can identify a problem before it turns into a major issue.  When we carry out our Mobility Scooter Service, our trained technicians will fully service and valet your scooter and if any parts are required, we will always inform you first before carry out any changes.  We check all the major workings such as the motor brake, motor brushes, tyre pressure and condition, gearbox and transaxle, lubricate all the moving parts and bearings.  We check all the electrical parts and can perform a battery test to condition your batteries.

There are two options for our Mobility Scooter Service. We can service your scooter in our Whitton Mobility showroom at a convenient time to yourself and collect it when its finished or, we can come to your home and service there and then.  It generally takes an hour to complete our service.

We carry out services to most major brands such as

  • Shoprider
  • Pride
  • Days
  • Roma
  • Freerider

If you would to arrange a service, please contact us on 020 8755 0022 and we can book you in.
